Outside on a Rainy Day

As I went to get groceries this evening, I saw something that made me smile.  It was drizzling outside, and over by the playground of our apartment complex was a dad playing swords (foam of course) with his son.  The dad was decked out in black dress pants, a polo shirt, and a ball cap.  Just a few days ago, when Lauren and I were throwing the frisbee, we saw the same dad doing the same thing… dressed much the same way.  I mention what he was wearing, because in my mind I imagine this father coming home from a hard day’s work… and heading outside in the rain to play with his son.  And I mention that we’ve seen him multiple times, because I also imagine that this is something he tries to do often (based on the number of observed occurrences in the last few days).

When I have a child of my own… that’s the kind of dad I want to be.

And fortunately for me… I had two dads that showed me that kind of love day in and day out.

I love to see or hear about parents that are that engaged with their children. What a difference it will make in that boy’s life.
