Finally, after talking about it for months (or longer), Lauren and I were able to go on our first camping trip together! For 2 people who love camping as much as we do, it is pretty surprising how long it took for us to get out there. We headed out Friday after school to Myrtle Beach State Park; a campground right on the beach. The night included stories by the campfire, hot dogs and S’mores (made with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups [thanks Ben for the great idea!]), an after-dark walk on the beach (including crab sightings!), and falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
The next day, we made eggs and hashbrowns on our new Coleman Propane Stove (which worked great!) We packed up our things and took another walk on the beach before departing to Brookgreen Gardens. Now this part of our mini-vacation was not something we had originally planned. We just wanted to go camping, since we finally had a weekend where we could go. But when we told some of the other teachers at school our Friday night plans, all of them went, “You need to go to Brookgreen Gardens! Wait… you’ve never heard of Brookgreen Gardens?!? Well…” and the conversation continued with them telling us all about how amazing this place is… especially in the Spring. So of course, we added it to our agenda.
Let’s just say… they were right. A-mazing. No other way to describe it. I can’t do it justice by trying to describe it, so instead I will simply put up some pictures and give you the link to their site to see for yourself.
